What this site knows about you

Short version: nothing, unless you choose to save something. If you sign in, an email address and the things you have saved. No password, no advertisers, no tracking of you across other sites.

If you never sign in

You can read every word here without an account, and nothing on the site is or will be locked behind one. If you save a highlight or write a note, your browser is given an anonymous id — a random string, tied to no name and no address — so that what you save survives a cache clear instead of dying with it. That id is shared between the three parts of the site so they agree about who you are. It is not shared with anyone else, and it tells us nothing about you.

If you sign in

Signing in exists for one reason: so what you save follows you to a second device. The site then holds:

your email address;
the date you first signed in, and the date you last did;
the things you chose to save — highlights, notes, bookmarks, saved verses, reading plans and your place in them.

That is the entire list. No password is stored, because there isn't one: you sign in through Google, or by clicking a link sent to your address. No IP address is kept with your account, and no record of which pages you visited beyond the reading history you can see and delete yourself.

If you sign in by email, the link works once and expires in twenty minutes. Your address is stored in one place — your own account record — and never becomes part of the name of anything else.

What is counted, and what isn't

The site counts how many times a piece has been read, and how many times a quote has been saved. Those counts are anonymous and carry no reference to who did the reading. They were anonymous before accounts existed and they stay that way; signing in does not attach your name to them.

What is never done

Your address is never sold, rented, or given to anyone.
There are no advertisers here, so there is nobody to sell anything to.
You are not followed across other websites.
Nothing you write privately — a note, a journal entry — is published, quoted, or read back to anyone.

Taking it back

Your account page shows exactly what is held, counted from the real records. One button hands all of it back to you as a file. Another deletes every trace of it, for good, and signs you out. No email is required to ask, and nothing is kept afterwards.

inkling-s is written and kept by one person, not a company. If something here concerns you, say so in the guestbook and it will be looked at.

Last changed 29 September 2026. If this page ever stops describing what the site actually does, the page is the thing that is wrong, and it will be corrected.
